The Ivy Group’s board members and team are composed of leaders in various fields.

Chairman: Clare Gu

Ms. Clare Gu is the Chairman of Ivy Group. She also serves as Managing Director, China (Beijing Chief Representative) at Temasek Holdings.

Prior to joining Temasek, Ms. Gu was the Head of Investment Department at China National Aviation Holding Group. She has more than 19 years of experience with Chinese state owned companies in the aviation and energy sector. Her roles have included strategic planning, investment policy and execution and corporate management policy.

Ms. Gu attended Dongbei University of Finance and Economics and graduated with Bachelor of Economics. In 2008, she received her Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) from Cheung Kiong Graduate School of Business.

CEO and Founder: Jack Hsu

Mr. Hsu is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ivy Group.  One of his early endeavors was with the technology company Scopus Technology which he was part of the team that took it public on NASDAQ in 1994.  Since then, Jack had also held leadership positions at several global management consulting firms, including Mitchell Madison Group and MMG Partners where he was a founding partner.

Jack received his MBA from Columbia University, MS in Computer Science from University of Maryland, College Park, BS in EECS from University of California, Berkeley, and a certificate in Multiple Intelligences from WIDE/Harvard Graduate School of Education. Jack is a Fellow of the fifth class of the China Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

Managing Partner, Ivy MI Institute: Julie Viens

Ms. Viens is one of the world’s leading experts on applying Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory in the classroom and most recently served as the senior researcher at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.  She is the creator of the Pathways approach for the MI-based curriculum and has worked with Professor Howard Gardner (who developed MI theory) for over sixteen years.  Her research is widely published and she has written numerous books including Multiple Intelligences in the Elementary Classroom and Building on Children’s Strengths.

Ms. Viens holds a Masters in Education from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

Legal Counsel: Rocky Lee - International Partner, Head of U.S. Corporate Practice (KWM)

Mr. Lee is a corporate lawyer with broad experience in China cross-border legal matters. He is widely recognized as one of the top legal advisors to founders, CEOs and directors on business and legal issues. He is also highly regarded for his knowledge of the complex regulations governing foreign investment into China.  As the recipient of numerous high profile awards and honors, Mr. Lee has been recognized as one of the leading lawyers in Asia by the following organizations and ranking guides: China Business Law Journal, Top 100 Lawyers for China Practice in 2016; Financial Times, Top 10 Innovative Individuals of 2015; AsiaLaw, a Leading Lawyer in General Corporate Law in 2013, a Leading Lawyer in Venture Capital & Private Equity for seven consecutive years; Chambers Asia Pacific, Top-Tier Band 1 Lawyer in Private Equity & Venture Capital Investment for consecutive years; Legal 500, Leading Private Equity & Venture Capital Lawyer in Asia for consecutive years. Prior to joining KWM, Mr. Lee was the Asia Managing Partner and Head of China Corporate Practice of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP. 

Rocky graduated from the University of California Berkeley with High Honors and Academic Distinction. He received his law degree, specializing in Business Law, from the University of California Los Angeles.

Board Member: Anita Ma

Anita Ma is a Director of Ivy Group. She has more than 15 years of experience in marketing, customer service and management consulting.  Previously, she held positions at McKinsey & Company, Procter & Gamble, Johnson and Johnson, and L’Oreal. Most recently she was the Head of Marketing and Customer Service at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.   

Ms. Ma received her MBA from Columbia University and a certificate in Multiple Intelligences from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a mother of two young girls and has great passion in early childhood education.

Board Member: Choon Noi Lim

Ms. Lim is a board member of Ivy Group. Most recently she served as the CFO of Singbridge, a global master developer of cities that are not only sustainable but also economically viable. Previously, she has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry, including at KPMG as an external auditor and at Texas Instruments as the Company Secretary and Director of Finance. 

Ms. Lim received her Bachelors in Accounting from National University of Singapore and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Board Member: Dawn Vermilya - Daystar Academy Founder

Ms. Dawn Vermilya is a founder, board member, and former director of Daystar Academy. After gaining a BS Engineering degree from Cornell University she worked as an engineer for General Motors, then lived in the Republic of The Gambia, West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer math teacher and USAID agriculture research project administrator. Returning to the US, she earned an MBA from Wharton Business School, and joined the World Bank in Washington, DC. With her husband, Jinyong Cai, she moved to Beijing in 1995. She continued working with the World Bank until 2000. In 2002, she started Daystar Academy with three students and continued as its director until 2011. She lived in China 17 years and is the mother of three daughters - Isabella, Sophia and Eva, all Daystar graduates.

Ms. Vermilya received her MBA from Wharton Business School and BS Engineering degree from Cornell University.
